About me

Laura Janáčková is employed at the Institute of Sexology of the General University Hospital in Prague and the 1st Medical Faculty of Charles University. She focuses on psychology in the field of applied medicine and communication, psychology for cancer and other seriously ill patients, psychosomatics, pain, partner and family relationships and sexual behavior. She has published dozens of professional and popular articles and is the author of a number of books.

From 1987 to 1990 she studied psychology at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague. In 1990 she received her PhD  at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague and in 1996 her CSc degree at the same faculty. In 2004 she was nostrified and received the degree of Dr.phil at the Universitat Wien. In 2012, she received the title of Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Olomouc.  In November 2011, her habilitation procedure was started at the Faculty of Arts of Palacký University in Olomouc. Her habilitation thesis is entitled Communication in Health Care and her habilitation lecture Psychological Aspects of Oncological Disease. The Scientific Council of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Applied Sciences approved the proposal for the appointment of Dr. Laura Janáčková Strouhalová as associate professor in the field of clinical psychology in May 2012.  She is the managing director of the Institute of Partnership Relations Ltd., founder and member of the board of the Institute of Oncological Psychology., which was established in July 2014. Since October 1, 2017, she has held the position of Vice-Rector for Development and External Relations at VŠAPs and also supervises the subject Fundamentals of Psychology.

She is interested in psychology within the field of applied medicine and communication, especially psychooncology, psychosomatics, issues of pain, human relationships and sexual behavior. She has published dozens of professional and popular articles and is the author of several books.
